Con la llegada del vmworld americano, como cada año, tenemos nueva versión de vSphere, la 5.1 que estaba en beta desde hace unos meses y toda una serie de novedades importantes que nos invitan a reflexionar sobre los pasos que está dando VMware. Twitter echa humo con los comentarios de todos los asistentes, que, a su vez, van publicando las novedades y haciendo referencia a documentos oficiales. Por una parte creo que es de las pocas empresas que se está tomando muy en serio el tema nube y desplegando toda una serie de productos al respecto para que los partners puedan albergar a sus clientes en CPDs más seguros que los típicos centros de datos de las empresas, sin seguridad física 24x7, la mayoría sin generadores, etc. Todas las novedades están aquí. Voy a mencionar las que me llaman más la atención. Aunque fuera de este documento tenemos el cambio de licenciamiento, con un sonoro paso atrás, renunciando al polémico sistema de vRAM y volviendo al tipo de licencia por procesador físico o socket, como veis en este cuadro extraído de este documento:

Veamos, pues, qué novedades nos trae 5.1. Se parece mucho a 4.1 en cuanto a pocas novedades técnicas y muchas a nivel de beneficios en licenciamiento:
